Nupohn Inthanousay is one of the co-owners of Goldee’s Barbecue in Fort Worth. Inthanousay’s family is from Laos and was encouraged from his fellow owners to incorporate dishes from his culture into the menu at Goldee’s. Despite being skeptical about what customers might say, he decided to introduce the smoked Lao sausage and the mango sticky rice which have both been popular items on their menu.

Darwin Payne, a former Dallas Times Herald reporter and professor emeritus at Southern Methodist University, was one of the first reporters on scene covering the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on Nov. 23, 1963. Now, 60 years later, Payne, 86, reflects on his experience being on scene at Dealey Plaza covering that fateful day in his book, “Behind the Scenes: Covering the JFK Assassination.”

Dallas resident Alice Salas fills in her eyebrows in her bedroom before she gets ready to go out every day. In 2008 and 2016, Salas was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and had to undergo a full hysterectomy and chemotherapy. Now, Salas has to live with the effects of the chemotherapy that has left her scalp exposed and eyebrows bare.

Loraine Lundquist, a climate activist, sustainability lecturer at CSUN and former candidate for Los Angeles City Council District 12, became an advocate for the facility’s closure after she witnessed her students experiencing symptoms of nosebleeds, nausea and dizziness during the gas leak in 2015.
“There are other trace chemicals within natural gas itself, but this gas that is stored at Aliso Canyon is stored in a depleted oil field. Oil has a lot of cancer-causing chemicals that have problematic health effects, such as benzene.”
