Christopher Torres is a staff Visual Journalist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, he left a career in Athletic Training to become a photojournalist. His goal: to inform viewers of important, news worthy events by using his own unique and creative perspective.
His approach is deeply rooted in curiosity, dignity and persistence. Sports is his favorite type of photography, but he has made it his mission to be as well-rounded of a photographer he can be. In 2021, Torres won the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence National Award for Sports Photography for covering the struggles of the Cal State Northridge NCAA Mens Soccer team. He has also won multiple local journalism awards based on his photographs, writing, and page designing while enrolled at Los Angeles Pierce College and Cal State University Northridge. He has had the opportunity to work with many well-known professionals in the field and has been able to share his knowledge with students at journalism /media conferences.
He graduated cum laude from Cal State University Northridge (CSUN) with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism with a minor in Photography and emphasis on photojournalism. He spearheaded the student publication at CSUN called The Daily Sundial where he served as chief photographer, photo editor and Editor in Chief. Prior to enrolling at CSUN, Torres was majoring in Kinesiology while being a member of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Mens Basketball team. After a lackluster year in Hawaii, he decided to come back home to California and start fresh. Torres found his passion for photography and journalism when he enrolled in the media arts program at Los Angeles Pierce College where he earned his Associates Degree in Journalism and social/behavioral sciences with an emphasis in photojournalism. After working as a staff photojournalist at the Santa Clarita Valley Signal for two years, Torres made the move to the Lone Star State to photograph for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
And when he is not working, Torres likes testing his strength in powerlifting so he could stay in shape. He enjoys going on nature and food adventures either by himself or with his girlfriend Jasmine.
